Julie Balan, MD

Julie Balan, MD, is board certified in family medicine. Dr. Balan earned her medical degree from Mandalay Institute of Medicine in Myanmar (formerly Burma). She completed her internship and residency at PIH Health Family Medicine Center in Whittier. She also received additional training in palliative medicine and chronic disease management. Many things attracted Dr. Balan to family medicine, including a desire to make a meaningful contribution to her community. She became interested in primary care because of the opportunities to build long-term relationships with her patients. She says that she treats her patients like family. Dr. Balan believes that most diseases are preventable and manageable. That is why she educates them on how to take care of their health by eating nutritious food, exercising regularly and reducing stress. In her spare time, Dr. Balan enjoys cooking, sightseeing and spending time with family and friends. In addition to English, she speaks fluent Burmese and basic Hindi.
